Last Friday, St. Patrick’s Salesian School had a fantastic time celebrating the SportMalta Schools Sports Day 2023. The day was made even more special with a visit from a remarkable sports personality, Mr. Nicky Farrugia, who is a Triathlete Champion. He shared his inspiring journey with the students, which included an incredible feat of swimming from Sicily to Gozo back in 1985.

After Mr. Farrugia’s motivating talk, the entire school was all set to participate in the European Schools Sports Day. The students and staff at St. Patrick’s Salesian School were split into two groups for various activities. One group enjoyed a refreshing 40-minute walk along the beautiful Promenade in Sliema, taking in the fresh air and scenic views. Meanwhile, the other group got into the sporting spirit with a friendly basketball tournament.

The fun didn’t stop there! More exciting activities awaited everyone. The day concluded with a thrilling mini football tournament played on three mini pitches with tiny goal posts. Teams were formed with both school staff and students, creating a bond between them. While the games did have some healthy competition, the prevailing atmosphere was one of camaraderie and friendliness.

It was a memorable day where everyone celebrated the joy of sports and physical activity, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork at St. Patrick’s Salesian School.

“What if every student could #BeActive and celebrate sport to kick off a lifetime of health?” This question became a reality on Friday, September 29, 2023, when our Junior School, along 50 schools, came together to participate in the SportMalta Schools Sports Day 2023.

The day was all about promoting physical activity and encouraging students to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle. The students embarked on a variety of exciting activities that made them move, smile, and celebrate the joy of sports.

One of the highlights of the day was the “Walk a Mile” challenge, where students took to their feet and walked together, promoting the simple yet effective act of walking as a way to stay active. They also engaged in a fitness and dance workshop, where they grooved to the beats and learned how to keep fit while having fun.

Moreover, the students tackled various fundamental skills obstacle courses, which not only tested their physical abilities but also fostered teamwork and determination.

The SportMalta Schools Sports Day 2023 was more than just a day of fun and games; it was a step towards a healthier, more active future for all the participating students. It demonstrated that being active and celebrating sports is not just for today but for a lifetime of health and happiness.

St. Clare College, Pembroke Secondary School had an exciting opportunity to be part of the SportMalta School Sport Day 2023, a special event organized by SportMalta. On Friday, the 13th of October, the school eagerly joined hands with other local and international schools to celebrate this day of sports and fitness.

This event was not just for the older kids; it was specifically open to the Year 7 students, all twelve classes of them. They had a blast participating in various physical activities. Caritas ‘Run for Life’

On a Sunday morning,  Caritas’ Run for Life took place, and it had more than 800 participants of all ages. Among them, there were over 60 people who had completed residential drug rehabilitation programs.

This event was organized in partnership with the SportMalta and St Patrick’s Athletic Club. It had races for adults, with options of 5km and 10km runs or a 2.5km walk. There were also shorter runs of 2.5km and 1km for kids, many of whom are part of various athletic clubs in Malta.

The starting point for all the runs was at the San Blas Therapeutic Community in ÅŧebbuÄĄ, where Caritas Malta offers programs to help men and women recover from substance abuse.

During the event, Anthony Gatt, the director of Caritas Malta, spoke to the participants and emphasized how the venue had helped thousands of people regain their lives, partly through promoting sports activities.

Gatt encouraged everyone to send a message to society that a healthy, happy, and drug-free life is possible.

The event wrapped up with an award ceremony for participants in every age group and category.

SportMalta played a pivotal role in supporting this event by collaborating with Caritas, showcasing the power of teamwork and community engagement. Their partnership not only highlighted the importance of sports and physical activity but also exemplified the spirit    of social responsibility and unity in making the event a resounding success.

On Friday, October 20th, 2023, at 1:45 PM, the Cottonera Sports Complex’s Main Hall was filled with excitement as the Volleyball Staff Event took place. There were a total of six teams in action. After some intense matches, the best team emerged victorious, claiming the top spot. The second-best team displayed impressive skills and secured the second runner-up position. It was a day of sportsmanship and teamwork that will be cherished by all who participated. Cospicua Subbuteo Club Malta – European Week of Sport 2023 Event

In the spirit of promoting #BeActive lifestyles and sporting achievements, the Cospiqua Subbuteo Club team delivered a remarkable performance at the England Grand Prix, which took place on Saturday and Sunday, October 7th and 8th, 2023, in Flitwirk, UK, coinciding with the European Week of Sport 2023. They secured victory in three categories: Open, Veterans (Individual), and Teams. Bessim Golger wins the Open, Jason Pisani wins Veterans, and Cospiqua SC wins the teams at England Grand Prix 2023.

In the Open category, a player from Cospiqua, representing Belgium, emerged as the champion. In the final match, they convincingly defeated the Italian Gabriele Silveri with a score of 4-2. To reach this prestigious final, Cospiqua’s representative, known as Golger, faced a tough semi-final against Remi Soret from France, which ended in a 3-3 draw. Golger ultimately triumphed in extra time.

The Veterans category saw Jason Pisani claim the title by defeating England’s Bob Varney with a score of 1-0 in the semi-finals. In the same category, Pisani secured a 1-0 victory over John Zammit from Malta in another hard-fought match. John Zammit, representing the Bormla Subbuteo Club, had an impressive tournament and reached the semi-finals. In the quarterfinals, Zammit defeated Alan Lee from the UK with a score of 2-1.

On Sunday, the team competition took place. The Bormla Subbuteo Club, ranked as the fourth-best team in the Fistf rankings, was the number one seed in Group 1. Cospiqua’s team performed exceptionally well, winning all their group games. They achieved identical 4-0 victories against Hennuyer B from Belgium and Yorkshire B from the UK, and a 2-1 win against Elstow from the UK. In the quarterfinals, they secured a dominant 4-0 win against White Star from England and repeated the same score in the semi-finals against Wobbly, another team from England. This strong performance led them to a final showdown against Elstow from the UK, which ended in a 2-2 draw. However, Cospicua Subbuteo Club secured the title with a two-goal advantage, marking their third Bessim Golger wins the Open, Jason Pisani wins Veterans and Cospiqua SC wins the teams at England Grand Prix 2023
