On Friday, the 13th of October, our school embraced the spirit of SportMalta Schools Sports Day with open arms. Every class, from Kindergarten to the older kids, participated in a variety of activities that celebrated the joy of movement and play. It was a day of fun and physical activity that brought smiles to everyone’s faces.

 

Kindergarten started their day with a burst of energy, engaging in activities like hoola hoop jumping, color sorting with hoola hoops, and even a game where children hopped into hoola hoops according to their name and the color called. They also had a blast with a parachute and bean bag toss, learning the importance of aim and coordination.

Meanwhile, Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3 got to experience the thrill of four traditional Maltese games, rotating through different stations. “It-TiÄĄieÄĄa l-għamja,” “Passju,” “Maktur,” and “Lupu lupu” were the names of the games that kept them entertained and active.

For the older students in Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6, four exciting stations were set up. They practiced their skills in penalty shootouts, improved balance on walking bucket stilts, and honed their coordination and jumping abilities by balancing on semi-spheres, jumping hurdles, and throwing rings into cones. Lastly, they had fun balancing balls on rackets and aiming bean bags into hoops, improving their coordination and precision.

Overall, the SportMalta Schools Sports Day 2023 was a resounding success, promoting physical activity and fun for all students. It’s a reminder that staying active and healthy can be a lot of fun.

Last Friday, St. Patrick’s Salesian School had a fantastic time celebrating the SportMalta Schools Sports Day 2023. The day was made even more special with a visit from a remarkable sports personality, Mr. Nicky Farrugia, who is a Triathlete Champion. He shared his inspiring journey with the students, which included an incredible feat of swimming from Sicily to Gozo back in 1985.

After Mr. Farrugia’s motivating talk, the entire school was all set to participate in the European Schools Sports Day. The students and staff at St. Patrick’s Salesian School were split into two groups for various activities. One group enjoyed a refreshing 40-minute walk along the beautiful Promenade in Sliema, taking in the fresh air and scenic views. Meanwhile, the other group got into the sporting spirit with a friendly basketball tournament.

The fun didn’t stop there! More exciting activities awaited everyone. The day concluded with a thrilling mini football tournament played on three mini pitches with tiny goal posts. Teams were formed with both school staff and students, creating a bond between them. While the games did have some healthy competition, the prevailing atmosphere was one of camaraderie and friendliness.

It was a memorable day where everyone celebrated the joy of sports and physical activity, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork at St. Patrick’s Salesian School.

The day was all about promoting physical activity and encouraging students to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle. The students embarked on a variety of exciting activities that made them move, smile, and celebrate the joy of sports.

One of the highlights of the day was the “Walk a Mile” challenge, where students took to their feet and walked together, promoting the simple yet effective act of walking as a way to stay active. They also engaged in a fitness and dance workshop, where they grooved to the beats and learned how to keep fit while having fun.

Moreover, the students tackled various fundamental skills obstacle courses, which not only tested their physical abilities but also fostered teamwork and determination.

St. Clare College, Pembroke Secondary School had an exciting opportunity to be part of the SportMalta School Sport Day 2023, a special event organized by SportMalta. Caritas ‘Run for Life’

On a Sunday morning,  Caritas’ Run for Life took place, and it had more than 800 participants of all ages. Among them, there were over 60 people who had completed residential drug rehabilitation programs.

This event was organized in partnership with the SportMalta and St Patrick’s Athletic Club. It had races for adults, with options of 5km and 10km runs or a 2.5km walk. There were also shorter runs of 2.5km and 1km for kids, many of whom are part of various athletic clubs in Malta.

The starting point for all the runs was at the San Blas Therapeutic Community in ÅŧebbuÄĄ, where Caritas Malta offers programs to help men and women recover from substance abuse.

During the event, Anthony Gatt, the director of Caritas Malta, spoke to the participants and emphasized how the venue had helped thousands of people regain their lives, partly through promoting sports activities.

Gatt encouraged everyone to send a message to society that a healthy, happy, and drug-free life is possible.

The event wrapped up with an award ceremony for participants in every age group and category.

SportMalta played a pivotal role in supporting this event by collaborating with Caritas, showcasing the power of teamwork and community engagement. Their partnership not only highlighted the importance of sports and physical activity but also exemplified the spirit    of social responsibility and unity in making the event a resounding success.

Stepping Up for Pink October: SportMalta’s Breast Cancer Awareness Walk

The event had taken place to raise awareness of the Pink October initiative. It was a collective effort by the SportMalta team to show their support for breast cancer awareness. With each step they had taken during the walk, they had contributed to the cause and demonstrated their commitment to fighting breast cancer. The atmosphere had been filled with positivity and unity as the staff had walked together, symbolizing their solidarity with those affected by this disease.
