ÄĶamrun – On Friday, October 11th, the SportMalta School Sports Day brought together more than 600 eager students from both the Primary and Secondary sectors at Our Lady Immaculate School. The annual event, organized under the theme “Let’s Keep Active,” emphasized the importance of regular physical activity, with a goal to engage every student in movement and exercise throughout the day.

Two separate gyms were set up on campus, one dedicated to Primary students and the other to Secondary students. Each gym featured a specially curated fitness circuit tailored to the specific age groups and their physical abilities. The event followed a structured 12-minute schedule, where each group cycled through a variety of activities. This schedule included 3 minutes for warm-up, 5 minutes of targeted exercises, 4 minutes for transitioning between stations, and finally, 3 minutes for cool-down.

The fitness circuits, which kicked off at 8 a.m. and ran until 1 p.m., were brought to life with the help of flashcards and upbeat music, ensuring that the atmosphere remained energetic and fun. Students enthusiastically participated in the activities, which not only encouraged them to stay active but also helped foster a sense of community and celebration around physical health and sports.

We are thrilled to share the wonderful experience at Gozo College Nadur Primary during the SportMalta School Sports Day, held on October 11th. The event was a highlight for the school, and extensive preparations were made to ensure students understood the importance of sports in their lives.

Informative talks with every class were held, explaining the purpose of the SportMalta School Sports Day and its alignment with the European Week of Sport. The 2024 priorities of inclusion, well-being, and belonging were discussed and set a meaningful tone for the event. Each student received handouts with insights into the event, which further reinforced the message.

On the day, 173 students from Year 1 to Year 6 participated, filling the school grounds with excitement. The space was decorated, and all equipment was labelled with “SportMalta School Sports Day,” adding to the festive atmosphere.

This event went beyond fun games. Students understood that sports are for everyone, not just athletes. They learned that it fosters inclusion, boosts self-esteem, and connects people across generations. Each class was awarded a certificate, proudly displayed in their classrooms, as a reminder of their achievements.

Gozo College Agius De Soldanis Middle School Year 8 Students Embrace Fitness with Scenic Trek for European Week of Sport

As part of the European Week of Sport celebration, Gozo College Agius De Soldanis Middle School organized a trekking activity for all Year 8 students, with 240 participants in total. This event aimed to promote walking as an accessible and enjoyable form of exercise, aligning with the school’s PE curriculum.

The students embarked on the trek from the school, walking towards Capuchins’ Street and heading in the direction of Marsalforn. The group then veered off into the valley along Marsalforn Road, eventually re-emerging on the main road. The trek continued through scenic country roads until the group reached Villa Fiorita, then proceeded to Xwejni Bay and the famous Salt Pans.

To conclude the activity, students were provided with water and fresh fruit, refreshing them after the long trek. A huge well done goes to all the students who participated and demonstrated great enthusiasm throughout the event.

Special thanks go to the ERRC Ambulance Service, the traffic police, and all the teachers and learning support educators who ensured the safety and supervision of the students during the activity. The event, organized by the PE department at Agius De Soldanis Middle School, was a great success, highlighting the importance of physical activity in a fun and engaging way.

On Friday, 11th October 2024, SCC Sir Adrian Dingli, Pembroke Secondary School, participated in the SportMalta School Sports Day 2024, an event organized by SportMalta. This exciting event was open to Year 7 students, with eleven classes, around 200 students in total, taking part.

The event was designed as a rotational system, where students moved through various stations featuring different physical activities. These activities were carefully selected by the Physical Education Department to test a range of fitness components, such as speed, coordination, reaction time, and agility. Some stations also focused on target throwing and jumping skills, allowing students to showcase their abilities across a broad spectrum of physical challenges.

Students were accompanied by their class teachers, with guidance from the physical education teachers. The event, which spanned two lessons, was filled with energy and excitement as students engaged enthusiastically in each activity.

Gozo College Ninu Cremona Secondary School organized an exciting tug of war competition for Year 11 students on 11th October 2024, as part of the school’s celebration of sports. The event featured participation from eight teams, with one team representing each class. The competition kicked off during the sixth lesson, from 12:15 PM to 12:55 PM, with intense quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.

To enhance school spirit and encourage community participation, the final was held during the midday break, allowing the rest of the school to attend and cheer on their favourite teams. The atmosphere was electric as students rallied behind their classmates, creating a lively and supportive environment.

After a series of thrilling matches, the Year 11 Emeralds emerged victorious, showcasing exceptional teamwork and determination throughout the competition. As a reward for their hard work and dedication, the winning team was presented with a token, generously sponsored by the school administration.
