As part of the #BeActive campaign and the European Week of Sport, Otters ASC proudly hosted its U12 Waterpolo Festival on the 7th of September, a day filled with talent, teamwork, and plenty of smiles.

Young athletes from Neptunes, Sirens, Marsascala, Exiles, and the host club Otters took to the pool, showcasing impressive skills and a wonderful spirit of fair play. The matches highlighted not only the children’s growing talent but also the values of sportsmanship and camaraderie that waterpolo is built on.

The event was made possible thanks to the dedication of coaches, referees, helpers, and the Otters ASC committee, who all worked together to create a memorable experience for the players.

Every child went home with a medal, a smile, and special memories of a brilliant afternoon of waterpolo, an inspiring reminder of the joy of sport and the importance of staying active as part of the European Week of Sport.

As part of the #BeActive campaign and the European Week of Sport, Sirens ASC hosted its Annual End of Summer Artistic Swimming Gala on the 13th of September 2025 at the Sirens Sport Facilities.

The event brought together over 50 talented athletes who showcased their skills through stunning routines in solos, duets, trios, and teams. Lasting around three hours, the gala drew a crowd of more than 150 spectators who filled the pool deck and tribunes, creating an energetic and supportive atmosphere that inspired every performance.

From elegant choreography to moments of teamwork and precision, the routines highlighted the dedication, artistry, and spirit of the swimmers. The evening was more than just a display of talent, it was a celebration of hard work and the strong sense of community at the heart of Sirens ASC.

To close the event, a celebratory dinner brought athletes, coaches, families, and supporters together, marking the perfect end to another successful summer season. The gala was a shining example of how sport can unite people and inspire all to embrace the #BeActive lifestyle.

On Sunday, 21st September at 6:30pm, a small community group organised the first-ever walk from the Żejtun Local Council building to Ħaż-Żabbar, as part of the European Week of Sport 2025 and the #BeActive campaign.

The event was attended by Mayor Joan Agius together with Councillor for Sport, Christian Attard, who both supported the initiative and joined the participants on this healthy and social activity.

This first edition of the Żejtun walk was a great example of how simple activities can bring people together, encouraging residents to embrace an active lifestyle while enjoying the company of their community.

As part of the #BeActive campaign and the European Week of Sport, Għajnsielem Local Council organised a special edition of Traditional Summer Games, held during Iljieli Sajfin 2025.

On Saturday 6th September, the Honey Island Rollers joined the celebrations of the European Week of Sport by hosting an outdoor skating workshop designed especially for adults with little to no skating experience.

The workshop focused on the fundamentals of roller skating, delivered in a safe and inclusive environment. With the guidance of the Honey Island Rollers team, participants quickly built their confidence, and by the end of the session, everyone was skating independently.

Roller skating is not only fun but also an excellent form of exercise. By showcasing the sport in an approachable and beginner-friendly way, the Honey Island Rollers encouraged participants to discover a new way to #BeActive.

To make the workshop even more engaging, the most experienced skaters wore the official European Week of Sport t-shirts. This helped new participants easily identify who to approach for tips, hints, and support throughout the activity.

A key outcome of the event was the enthusiasm shown by the majority of participants, many of whom expressed an interest in continuing their skating journey and attending future workshops. This reflects the lasting impact that grassroots initiatives can have in motivating people to remain active beyond the European Week of Sport.

The Royal Malta Yacht Club Sailing School recently welcomed the public to an engaging Open Afternoon, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the school’s facilities, meet the dedicated team, and learn more about the wide range of courses on offer.

One of the highlights of the day was the chance for guests to step out on the water for a taster sail, allowing newcomers to experience the thrill and excitement of sailing first-hand. The activity showcased sailing as not only an exciting sport but also a healthy and enjoyable way to stay active.

As part of the European Week of Sport and the #BeActive campaign, Starlites Basketball Club organised an exciting week-long programme of training and activities at the Loutraki Sport Youth Camp.

 A total of 43 young athletes, aged between 11 and 15, took part in this enriching experience. The programme combined basketball training with a variety of complementary activities including swimming, sand training, and strength & conditioning sessions. This mix of disciplines not only improved the participants’ sporting skills but also highlighted the importance of versatility, teamwork, and overall fitness.

 By engaging in different types of physical activity, the young athletes experienced the benefits of sport in a fun and dynamic way while building lifelong habits that align with the #BeActive message. Beyond improving their technical and physical abilities, the camp also fostered friendship, resilience, and confidence among participants.

As part of the European Week of Sport and the #BeActive campaign, SportMalta proudly supported the Otters Fest Aqua STEM Hunt, held on Tuesday 2nd September.

A total of 40 young adventurers took part in this exciting challenge, diving into the sea and racing across land to solve water polo–themed math clues. Each clue brought them closer to cracking the secret code, with the thrill building until the final padlock was unlocked. The first team to solve the puzzle and open the lock claimed the win, celebrating both teamwork and determination.

The Aqua STEM Hunt combined sport, education, and fun, highlighting the importance of staying active while engaging young minds through problem-solving and teamwork.

This event forms part of the wider European Week of Sport celebrations in Malta, reminding us all that no matter the activity, it’s always the right time to #BeActive.
