The Għargħur Local Council marked the European Week of Sport 2024 with an energetic celebration that brought the community together for eight days of sports, fitness, and fun. The Għargħur European Week of Sport, held during the last week of September, offered 19 different sporting activities, ensuring there was something for everyone, from casual fitness enthusiasts to competitive athletes.
The diverse range of activities included fitness classes, pool matches, football tournaments, and a 5K fun run that served as the event’s grand finale. Over 150 participants took part in the festivities, embracing the spirit of the European Commission’s initiative to promote sports and physical activity across EU member states.
Beyond encouraging healthy lifestyles, this year’s event also raised funds for a local NGO that supports cancer patients through their treatment and recovery. By combining fitness with charity, the Għargħur Local Council showcased how sports can not only improve individual well-being but also unite the community for humanitarian causes.
With its successful turnout and enthusiastic participation, the Għargħur European Week of Sport 2024 stands as a testament to Malta’s commitment to fostering an active and engaged society.
