SportMalta today officially launched the “Let’s Move Malta” programme at the Cottonera Sports Complex, marking a significant rebranding and expansion of its existing initiatives aimed at promoting physical activity and wellbeing across all ages.
During the press conference, SportMalta CEO Mark Cutajar emphasized that it was time for a major shift in the organisation’s approach to community sport programmes. He explained that the rebranding reflects a renewed commitment to inclusivity and collaboration, particularly through partnerships with Local Councils and Sports Associations involved in the SportMalta Hubs.
“It was time to make a drastic change in our programmes and to introduce more opportunities for people of all ages to get moving,” said Mr. Cutajar. “This can only be achieved through collaboration with our local communities and sports organisations.”
Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, expressed pride in how SportMalta’s initiatives have become an integral part of everyday life for many citizens.
“These programmes have not only helped many people improve their fitness but also achieve a better life balance and overall wellbeing,” said Minister Grima.
During the event, Dino Zammit from the SportMalta Programmes Department gave an overview of the wide range of programmes that will be available under the new “Let’s Move Malta” initiative. He also introduced two exciting new programmes designed to reach new audiences and promote lifelong engagement in physical activity:
Parent and Child Programme – Specially designed sessions for parents and children aged 2.5 years and above, aimed at developing early motor skills and encouraging family-based physical activity from a young age.
Teen Adventure Programme – Targeted at youths aged 12 to 16, this programme combines teamwork, outdoor activities, and the development of essential survival and social skills in a fun and engaging environment.
In his address, the Deputy Chairman of SportMalta, Mr Keith Bartolo, praised the “Let’s Move Malta” programme and all those involved in its creation and delivery. He highlighted that without their energy, passion, and belief in the initiative, none of this progress would have been possible.
Ms Melania Bajada, Coordinator of Programmes for SportMalta in Gozo, also gave an overview of the initiatives that will be available across Gozo. She confirmed that, for the first time, the Gozo Indoor Sports and Aquatic Pavilion will host the “Let’s Move Malta” programmes — expanding the initiative’s reach to the Gozitan community.
The Let’s Move Malta programmes will officially kick off on Monday, 20th October 2025.
