President George Vella has officially kicked off ‘Mixja mal-President’ (Walk with the President), an annual fundraising event aimed at supporting the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. This initiative replaces the traditional Solidarity Fun Run for this year.
Scheduled for exactly in a month’s time, on November 11, this event aims to bring people together through a collective walking experience, fostering unity among participants. President Vella expressed his optimism that this event will regain the scale it enjoyed before the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, the President’s Solidarity Fun Run was canceled due to the pandemic. It made a modified return in 2021 with smaller groups conducting 58 separate walks across Malta and Gozo. The event transitioned from a run to a walk to encourage greater participation and unity.
The walk will commence at 3 pm on November 11 at Verdala Palace, passing through Sant’Anton Palace and concluding in front of the Presidential Palace in Valletta. Participants are encouraged to bring their pets, and transportation information will be available in the near future.
Clifton Grima, the Education Minister, highlighted that events like this demonstrate the unity of the country as thousands of Maltese and Gozitans from various walks of life come together to walk alongside the President.
Rose Marie Mercieca, the event coordinator of SportMalta, stressed the importance of physical activity and its positive impact on individual health. The event allows participants to engage in physical activity while showing solidarity with those in need.
This annual event symbolizes the collective commitment of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, SportMalta, and numerous other entities, along with dedicated volunteers, working towards a common goal of solidarity through physical activity.
This year’s event will follow a slightly different route. The President’s Walk will commence at Verdala Palace, leading to San Anton Palace, ending at the President’s Palace in Valletta’s San Gorg Square. People can join from the beginning or the middle of the walk at San Anton Palace.
To participate, individuals can make a âŽ10 contribution at various locations, including SportMalta’s complexes in Hal-Kirkop, Cottonera, and Tal-Qroqq, as well as the offices of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation in Valletta and Gozo, Maypole shops, and for the first time this year, online via https://www.mccf.store/info/28. Registrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
Transport will be provided from Valletta to Verdala and San Anton to minimize traffic congestion. Several local councils and workplaces are also organizing transportation for their residents and employees.
Join us for this annual solidarity event, and let’s come together to support those in need.
