An investment of ⎠25,000 by the Ministry for Inclusion and Quality of Life together with the
Parliamentary Secretariat for Sport, Recreation and Voluntary Organizations, with the participation of
SportMalta and the Mqabba Local Council, led to part of the Children’s Garden in Mqabba
be transformed into a physical exercise facility from which children and parents in particular will benefit.
The work done consists of three gym machines, complemented by landscaping works
around the whole garden.
Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli and Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima visited this facility and
expressed satisfaction with the way SportMalta is identifying open spaces in various locations
which can be converted into outdoor exercise facilities.
Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima said that this project is part of a series of projects that
the government is carrying out with the aim of investing in Maltese and Gozitan families. He said these projects
confirm the government’s willingness to reward families with more balance and time devoted toÂ
physical exercise. “Maltese families and physical activity are at the heart of this government’s policy, â
concluded the parliamentary secretary.
SportMalta Chief Executive Mark Cutajar explained that physical activity plays an important part in
life. The benefits of being physically active are many. These facilities help ensure that more opportunities are created where oneÂ
can engage in outdoor physical activity. SportMalta is fulfilling its mission by working hand in hand
with local councils to help the general public find open spaces to train close to home.
The Mayor of Mqabba Omar Farrugia stressed that with this investment we are giving life back to the
children of the Village. “This project will serve as another recreational space for residents and those
who come to visit us,â.
