An investment of ⎠17,000 by the Ministry for Inclusion and Quality of Life together with
Secretariat for Sport, Recreation and Voluntary Organizations and with the participation of SportMalta and the
Zurrieq Local Council has turned part of the Zurrieq Reservoir Garden into a facility for
physical exercise from which children and their parents in particular will benefit.
The work carried out consists of a childrenâs football pitch with artificial turf complemented by two
gym machines for parents, so they too can do physical exercises while
their children are going to play football.
The Minister for Inclusion and Quality of Life Julia Farrugia Portelli together with the Secretary
Parliamentarian Clifton Grima visited this facility and expressed their satisfaction with the way
SportMalta is identifying open spaces in various locations that can be turned into facilities
in the open for physical exercise.
Minister Farrugia Portelli said that, âIn such a busy life we ââlive it is important
finding time for a little physical exercise, not only for children but also for parents. Exercise and
Physical health are instrumental to human health, both physically and mentally.
Open spaces are ideal to be transformed into such facilities.
Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Recreation and Voluntary Organizations Clifton Grima
mentioned the commitment of the government which is to continue investing in Maltese and Gozitan families,
particularly in their physical and mental health. He said that these facilities, which in recent months we have seen
a substantial increase of them, will create a balance for Maltese families between work and physical activity.
âIn addition to balancing work and physical activity, it is important to bring communities closer together. â
added the Parliamentary Secretary.
SportMalta Chief Executive Mark Cutajar stressed that SportMalta, in addition to making an investment
in its sports and new facilities, has carried out an exercise to look for open spaces in the
communities.More than 20 different projects, one of which is the Reservoir Garden, have been launched
with the aim of bringing more people of all ages to do daily physical activity near their home
