St Nicholas College Baħrija Primary School celebrated SportMalta Schools Sports Day on Monday, 19 October 2026, with a series of fun and engaging physical activities designed to promote fitness, teamwork, and cooperation among pupils. Students from Years 1, 3 and 6 participated in 45-minute sessions that encouraged active participation, enjoyment, and positive relationships within the school community.
Pupils explored a selection of traditional Maltese games, including Żunżana iddur iddur, Il-Passju, Il-Brilli and Il-Ħbiel tal-Ħabel. Through singing, hopping, bowling, and jumping, the children developed their coordination, balance and fundamental movement skills while discovering the enjoyment of traditional play. Class teachers and Learning Support Educators (LSEs) also joined in, encouraging and supporting the pupils throughout the activities.

Throughout the sessions, pupils demonstrated enthusiasm, good sportsmanship, and a willingness to collaborate. The activities provided an enjoyable and inclusive environment where children could remain active while strengthening their relationships with classmates and teachers.

The initiative reflects the objectives of SportMalta Schools Sports Day, which encourages schools across Malta and Gozo to celebrate sport, promote physical activity and highlight the importance of movement in children’s everyday lives. By combining traditional Maltese games with team challenges, Baħrija Primary School also demonstrated how physical activity can preserve cultural traditions while developing valuable physical and social skills.
