St Benedict Primary School celebrated SportMalta School Sports Day on Monday, 19 October 2026, with a varied programme of sporting activities designed to encourage pupils of all ages to enjoy movement, develop their physical skills and experience the benefits of teamwork.
Kindergarten 1, Kindergarten 2, and Year 1 pupils participated in a series of fun movement stations, including parachute games, beanbag target throwing, football shooting, and an adventure obstacle course. These activities provided younger children with opportunities to develop coordination, balance, and fundamental movement skills in an enjoyable and supportive environment.
Year 2 pupils took part in cycling activities, including a Bike Challenge, a Bike Delivery Challenge and agility stations involving ladders and hoops, followed by a team relay challenge. With the support of the Local Council, the road in front of the school was temporarily closed to traffic, with parking spaces made available to ensure a safe environment for the cycling activities. SportMalta backpacks were also incorporated into the Bike Delivery Challenge, adding an engaging practical element that was particularly enjoyed by the children.

Meanwhile, pupils from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 rotated through eight sports stations featuring basketball, bucket stilts, standing broad jump, parachute activities, hoop and ladder challenges, hurdles, balance activities, sack races, and football dribbling and shooting. The variety of activities encouraged pupils to challenge themselves, improve their physical abilities and work together while discovering different ways to stay active.
Beyond sport, the school also used the occasion to promote awareness and community solidarity. Pupils and staff wore orange to raise awareness of ADHD, while donations were collected for L-Istrina through the BOV Piggy Bank campaign. These initiatives added an important social dimension to the day, highlighting the values of inclusion, empathy and giving back to the community.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to enjoy physical activity while developing teamwork, coordination, and confidence. The participation of different year groups, together with the support of the Local Council and the school community, contributed to a positive and memorable celebration.
