MRC Stefano Zerafa Middle School celebrated SportMalta School Sports Day on Monday, 19 October 2026, with an extensive programme of sporting activities involving approximately 500 students. The initiative highlighted the importance of physical activity in promoting healthy lifestyles, inclusion, teamwork, and studentsâ overall physical and mental wellbeing.

Throughout the day, students participated in a variety of activities, including archery, athletics, basketball, football, volleyball, traditional games, and team-building challenges. These activities provided opportunities for students to develop their physical skills, cooperate with their peers, and experience the enjoyment of being active in a supportive environment.

One of the highlights was an outdoor experience at Park tal-Majjistral, where approximately 100 students took part in trekking and environmental exploration. Combining physical endurance with an appreciation of Maltaâs natural environment, the activity encouraged students to develop resilience, strengthen teamwork, and increase their awareness of the importance of protecting the natural world.

The programme also emphasised inclusion by providing opportunities for students with different abilities and interests to participate in physical activity. Through sporting challenges and cooperative games, students were encouraged to demonstrate respect, fair play and sportsmanship while building positive relationships with their peers.

By combining traditional sports, team activities and outdoor learning, the school demonstrated how physical activity can contribute to both physical and mental wellbeing. The initiative also highlighted the important role of Physical Education in encouraging young people to develop positive attitudes towards sport and establish healthy habits that can continue throughout their lives.

The participation of approximately 500 students reflects MRC Stefano Zerafa Middle Schoolâs commitment to making sport accessible and enjoyable, extending opportunities for physical activity beyond regular Physical Education lessons.
The initiative reflects the objectives of SportMalta School Sports Day, which encourages schools across Malta and Gozo to celebrate sport and promote active lifestyles within the educational environment.
