As part of the European Week of Sport (EWoS) celebrations, the Floriana Local Council proudly organised its first-ever Duathlon during the Ġenna ta’ Ġonna festivities.
The Duathlon marked a milestone for the locality, as it introduced a new and exciting sporting dimension to the popular annual event. Participants of all ages took part in a test of endurance and determination, combining running and cycling in a lively and encouraging atmosphere that perfectly captured the spirit of the European Week of Sport.
In his address during the event, Deputy Mayor James Aaron Ellul highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering greater youth participation in sport. He commended all those who took part and encouraged them to continue pursuing their sporting ambitions, noting that events like these help strengthen community bonds while promoting active lifestyles.
The success of this first Duathlon highlights Floriana’s growing commitment to creating inclusive and engaging sporting opportunities for all. It also reflects the wider goal of the European Week of Sport, to inspire people across Malta and Europe to move, connect, and #BeActive every day.
